Don’t Tie It Up with a Bow

People love a great story. Movies, books, campfires… you name it. We love to live em, we love to tell em!

The latest Nike Ad Campaign, Write the Future is brilliant. Not only does it tell a story, but it captures the power of a moment in athletics that we all end up reliving over and over and over.

But what stands out in this ad is what’s not there.

There’s no “The End.” We get to imagine it. And therein lies the power.

Enjoy…

Film & Faith

The Church must exegete two things well: the scriptures and culture. Sadly, we have failed in both but usually we focus on scripture and ignore culture. Culture is what it is. In it can be goodness, neutrality and sinfulness. The work of Christians is to discern the difference and speak and live the gospel into it.

A while back we launched a new ministry designed to exegete culture and because our cultures predominant pulpit is film, we are starting there.

We have responded like the Apostle Paul did to the culture of Athens (Acts 17) and view movies (uncensored).  I’m so grateful for Amanda for taking the leadership on this important role each of us have as Christians living not of the world but in it.

Film & God

I’m pretty excited about a new Connection Event that TRC’s launching this Friday called Film & God.

Here’s the scoop:

Film & God
This Friday, February 17
7:30 PM
At The Rock’s Offices

Through cinema; directors, producers, actors and screenwriters
influence all of us. In fact, most of us can in some way point to a
particular film that had some kind of impact upon our life. Film &
God is The Rock’s way of effectively engaging culture with the gospel
while connecting with others in entertainment.

We watch a full length movie and it’s followed by a discussion of how
the film did or did not reinforce biblical values, its potential impact
on culture and the general entertainment assessment.

BYOBb (Bring your own Beanbag.)

Movie TBD.
