Kevin, thanks for the comment. I couldn't agree more. I miss the community and look forward to my return. For me, it was dominating my time and energy. Even when I wasn't contributing I was lurking. And my creativity and family were paying the price.

I needed to take a complete time away. My prayer is that I can find a healthy balance when I return.

Scott,

I went without it for Thanksgiving week, not voluntary however, simply because I didn't have internet access.

To my surprise at the end of those 4 days I didn't miss it. But then I started using it again, and realized I missed the online community.

Sometimes there comes a time to change communities and focus, and I understand that, but sometimes you don't know what you are missing until you go back and experience it again.

For me it helps me expand my world by helping me connect with people I would have never meet otherwise, and develop friendships, connections outside my circle that the real world can take me.

Someday I may make the same choice as you, or I may simply try to connect with a new community online, but now is not the time.

For you I would say give it a day back of interacting with the community and see what happens. It needs the strong, loving, and smart voice you provide.

(BTW, I didn't read your post as you condemning those on social nets, just thought I would share my experiences, to give the other side)
