Leadership Campfires

The leadership of Granger use a campfire metaphor to help their leaders understand their responsibility to provide leadership to their teams and the importance of span of care.

In other words, you are reponsible to care for those on your team but you can only care for so many.

A campfire can only warm a few, usually 6-8 fit around its warmth. There’s no second row.

    so, I get the campfire analogy, and I like it, but I also wonder if it falls slightly short. And by that I mean, once you turn away from the campfire, you get cold. It’s not like you walk away and carry the heat with you to warm other people. When you walk away, the heat stays where its at and you get cold. Anyway, not knocking the analogy so much as trying to figure out how it works completely.

    Good observation!

    I think the picture is that everyone is connected to two fires. A team member to one and a leader at another. If you leave a fire you get cold unless you build another to warm a new team.

    That’s the way I understood it.
