Books, Movies & Church Planting

Most people who loved a book then see the movie leave disappointed. The movie just never seems to be as good as the book.

This phenomenon happens for every church planter too. Most planters will experience those on their launch team begin to leave their new church between years 1-3. There's, perhaps, many reasons for this but one is:

As well as the planter did in casting the vision, there is a mental portrait that lives in the imagination every person on the team of what this church will become.

And though 1 out of a 1000 church plants experience rapid growth, most don't and patience hardly keeps pace with imaginations.

    You’re so correct Scott.
I think that our disposable, me-me-me culture is to blame mostly. We want instant rewards, we crave to be immediately satisfied & have been led to believe that it is an acceptable standard of life, never mind the consequences (hence the current financial meltdown). If we aren’t gratified then its off to find the next treasure.
I’ve found in my life that the best treasure is worth waiting for, finding, fighting for & holding onto.
